The ONLY Bureau of Land Management Land in Texas
In July 2022, Friends of Cross Bar submitted a grant application to the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) to construct the long-needed public access road to the Cross Bar Special Recreation Management Area.
The FLAP grant totals $12,451,000. To unlock these federal funds, a local match of $4,000,000 is required.
Thanks to generous supporters and partners, we have already secured $2,202,000 toward this match.
We need your help to close the remaining gap.
This project has been formally approved by the FLAP Project Decisions
Committee for the State of Texas, affirming its regional, economic, and public benefit.

BLM Cross Bar Management also works on internal budget proposals for project funding to include the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding opportunities.
Interior amenities are being planned and budgeted for.
To fully develop the Cross Bar SRMA, BLM master planning efforts estimated a total cost of $26 million.
Considering the high development cost grant applications will be necessary. Fundraising for grant match requirements allows us to be competitive and prepared when grants are announced and/or awarded. Donations for campaigns will be invested in the Amarillo Area Foundation "The Cross Bar Fund."
It is imperative that we have matching funds available when any grant is announced. Therefore, all donations will be maximized to show competitiveness for grants. The partners are constantly looking for and applying for grants. While grant awards are never guaranteed, we will continue to apply for grants to achieve our goals.

At Friends of Cross Bar SRMA, we believe that public lands are a shared treasure—places that connect people, inspire adventure, and renew the spirit. Guided by our mission to protect, promote, and provide access to the Cross Bar, we work to ensure that every voice is heard and every person can experience the beauty and freedom of their land. Our values reflect our deep respect for the land, our partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, and our dedication to keeping the Cross Bar open, accessible, and thriving for generations to come.

We are always looking for volunteers to help us make our vision a reality. We'll help you find a way to volunteer that best suits you.
Friends of Cross Bar SRMA and the #opencrossbar campaign would not be possible without the generous support of the Gilliland Family Foundation.
We would also like to give a special thanks to the LX Ranch for their donation of easement for the access road.
Thank you!
